We’ve been sharing our thoughts far and wide during the last few weeks. During May, our team member Philipp Späth gave two lectures in China, at Tongji University (Shanghai), and the Swanport Café (Beijing), on the subject of ‘The Smart City in Germany? Reconsidering the Challenges of Sustainable Urban Development’ (德国智慧城市- 城市可持续发展挑战再考). He gave an interview on the same subject in Beijing, which is available here (in English and in Chinese translation): http://www.greatlandscape.cn/research/cf/2016/0618/17.html
Meanwhile, Simon Joss and Rob Cowley both presented papers drawing on the SMART-ECO project at the Society for the History of Technology’s annual meeting in Singapore (22-26 June). Simon presented on ‘“Smart City”: Tracing the Historical Roots of the Contemporary Paradigm of Urban Technology’, and Rob on ‘Science Fiction and the Smart-Eco City’. Simon then travelled to Daejeon (South Korea), where he was one of the main speakers at an international symposium on the ‘Sustainable Smart Science City’.
